Book Cover Design

An original cover designed to be legible at thumbnail size and correct at print dimensions.

The cover is doing the selling, at the size of a postage stamp

On a store listing your cover is a small thumbnail next to dozens of others. Covers that look fine at full size lose their title at that scale, or signal the wrong genre entirely and get skipped by the readers who would have bought.

Designed for the thumbnail first, then scaled up

We research how the successful covers in your category actually behave, then design concepts that hold up small. You review at thumbnail size before full size, and you receive both the e-book cover and a print wrap built to your exact specification.

What you get

  • Category and genre research
  • Two or three cover concepts
  • Front cover for e-book
  • Full print wrap with spine
  • Thumbnail legibility checks
  • Layered source files
  • Licensed asset documentation

How it works

  1. BriefWe capture your genre, reader and comparable titles, and agree what the cover has to signal before anything is designed.
  2. Category researchWe look at how covers in your category use type, colour and imagery, so the design reads as belonging to the right shelf.
  3. ConceptsTwo or three distinct directions, presented at thumbnail size as well as full size. You pick one direction to develop.
  4. RefinementTypography, contrast and hierarchy are refined on the chosen concept across two revision rounds.
  5. Production filesFinal e-book cover and a print wrap built to the trim size, page count and spine width your printer specifies, plus layered sources.

Common questions

Do I get the source files?

Yes. You receive the layered working file along with the exported covers, so any designer can make future changes. Fonts and stock images are listed with their licence terms, since those licences belong to the asset, not to us.

Can you design a paperback cover as well as the e-book one?

Yes, and it is built as a single wrap covering back, spine and front. Spine width depends on your final page count and paper stock, so the print file is produced once those are fixed. Ordering the e-book and print cover together keeps them visually identical.

What if I do not like any of the concepts?

The brief stage exists to make that unlikely, but if none of the directions land we go back to the brief and present new concepts rather than pushing you toward one you do not want. Say what is wrong in plain terms and we will work from that.

Do you use stock images or original artwork?

Both, depending on the brief and budget. Licensed stock is faster and often the right answer for non-fiction. Where a book needs original illustration we quote that separately, because it is a different scope of work.

Will a good cover increase my sales?

We cannot promise that, and nobody honestly can. What a cover can do is make your book legible and genre-appropriate at the size readers actually see it, which is a prerequisite for being considered at all. We design against that standard and show you the thumbnail test.

Tell us where your book is right now.

An idea, a half-finished draft, or a manuscript waiting to be published. We will tell you what the next step costs and how long it takes.
